This research seminar is jointly hosted by the University of Auckland’s Climate Adaptation Platform and the University of Canterbury’s Quake Centre. Ian’s research is focused on the soil-pipe interaction and the mechanics of new, deteriorated and rehabilitated pipe systems. In this upcoming seminar, Ian will share his learnings and insights on addressing the deteriorated pipe infrastructure problem through assessment, repair and replacement.

PROFESSOR IAN MOORE
Professor and Canada Research Chair in Infrastructure Engineering
Executive Director Geotechnical Centre at Queen's - RMC

Dr Moore is a Civil Engineer specializing in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Non-linear soil-structure interaction, and analysis and design of buried infrastructure, polymer structures, and shell structures. Recent research interests include development of design methods for joints in polymer, metal and concrete culverts, identification of limit states for thermoplastic pipes, soil-pipe interaction and ground movements during pipe bursting, hydrofracture pressures, pulling forces and and axial response of pipes installed using horizontal directional drilling, strength of deteriorated steel and reinforced concrete culverts, performance and design of liners used to repair sewers, water pipes and culverts, non-linear time-dependent models for thermoplastics (pipes and geosynthetics), and behaviour of buried oil and gas pipelines under ground movements.
