National Stormwater Modelling Guide

Floods are New Zealand’s most frequent and most significant natural hazard. It was recognised there are significant gaps in flood risk information and how its developed, variations between councils' levels of service, design standards and policies related to flooding and protection.

To address these challenges, this National Stormwater Modelling Guide aims to provide a consistent national-scale urban stormwater flood hazard modelling methodology.

Acknowledgements

A need for a cohesive, national approach to stormwater hazard modelling was identified and initially progressed by our modelling special interest group. The preparation of the national stormwater modelling guide was funded by Department of Internal Affairs. Water New Zealand project managed the guide development, recognising our relationship through special interest groups and industry networks. Awa Environmental, Metis and Submergent collaborated to develop the Guide.

The Modelling Special Interest Group will oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the guide.
